The Living Ger

We stayed in gers this weekend and had a complete blast! my favorite part was lighting the fires and making the ger feel like a home. The Ger was warm, clean and inviting. it was an invitation for card games, snacks and cribbage. If you have not played cribbage in a ger with a fire, I suggest you do. if you have not played cribbage before, I suggest you also do that. Another thing i enjoyed was the landscape and culture around me. Looking around, I could get a glimpse as to what it was like to live the nomadic life. It was impressive studying the gers, looking at how they were assembled and how they were heated and cooled. during the day, the bottoms of the gers were tied up to allow for a consistent airflow to cool the gers. while at night the stove in the middle warmed the ger and kept the heat in. The small doors allowed for less heat to escape and kept the ger more stable and secure. While staying the gers we also got to visit a monastery. This monastery was historic and hosted many historical happenings. The most enjoyable part of this trip was the history we got to learn about. We went inside several temples and also enjoyed some authentic Mongolian foods. This part of the trip was the most enjoyable and I recommend this to anyone traveling to the country side of Mongolia.
