Day Four

Today we walked a lot. We were able to do a tour of the Winter Palace of Bodg Khan, which was lovely. The gift shop was full of snazzy trinkets and beautiful memorabelia. Luch followed at a decadent barbecue filled with traditional Mongolian cousine as well as delicious comfort food. After that, we saw the Buddha statue, and we hiked up quite the stair case at the Zaisan memorial monument on top of a hill south of the city. The momument shows some of the history of the relations between Russia and Mongolia. It was an exhausting but incredibly worth while journey. Once we reached the top of the stair case, we took dozens of photos with an eagle, who was more than happy to pose for us. We concluded the day by visiting a new park nearby. We rode in four person bicycle-carriages, we drank frappacinos, and enjoyed hanging out with everyone there.

Day Three

Our first real day here in Mongolia. We went to lunch and took an unofficial walking tour of the city, around our hostel. We went shopping around local shops, looking at cashmere, jewelry, food, and various other trinkets.

We were able to see Beatles Square, and the famous Genghis Khan statue in Genghis Khan square.

Days One & Two

We left Bellingham at approximately 10:00am on Thursday, June 23rd. We drove to Vancouver, BC to fly to Seoul, South Korea, to fly (more like run accross the airport) to Ulaanbaatar. It was a journey and a half, but we arrived in town around 11:30pm on Friday, June 24th. So you'll be hearing from us more tomorrow after a ligitimate nights' sleep.

The important update - we all made it here together with all of our passports, all of our luggage, and most of our sanity.

In Bellingham

Plans have been planned. Phone numbers exchanged. Packing issues addressed and now all that's left, is a final night's sleep before leaving in the morning. Before the jet lag and before the intensity, bring on the adventures, this group is ready.
